Garage Door Specialist's - what to look for.

Garage doors are heavy , temperamental and can be dangerous if not properly maintained. That's why we suggest you engage the experts to make sure nothing goes wrong.

But how do you find someone who's going to get the job done right?

Tip #1 - Check out their online reviews

When looking for a good garage door technician, check them out online.

Google reviews, socials, a well maintained and professional website and word of mouth are a fantastic way to judge if the garage door technician is professional, personable, knowledgeable and efficient.

I've engaged some of my best tradies based on recommendations from family and friends. If it's a local business that's the icing on the cake for me.

Tip #2 - Do they have public liability insurance?

When engaging any trade, you should always check they have the right insurance and credentials. When enquiring about their services, ask if they have insurance in the event something goes wrong.

They are working on your property and this is a simple way to determine their level of professionalism and make sure they are the right person for the job.

Tip #3 - Prepare the work area before they arrive

So, you've booked your appointment, great!

A few things you can do to make it a nice fast process for both you and the door tech is to remove any clutter near the work area.

If you have your old paint tins stacked high near the entrance of the door, where they are going to need to work, it's going to be a whole lot harder for your garage door specialist to get the job done, so clear any safety hazards around the work area if you can.

Tip #3 - Move your car, Please!

You know how we said earlier garage doors are heavy , temperamental and can be dangerous if not properly maintained?

The heavy part doesn't mix well with one of your other major assets, but is usually kept quite close to it.

That's right, I'm talking about your car!

Where practical, make it easy for your technician to work on your door.

Take your car out of the garage before they get there and leave at least 1.5 metres space from the exterior of the door.

Obviously if the reason you have called them is because your car is stuck in the garage - this won't work! but, if it is a routine service, motor replacement, wi-fi add on, brush seal or beam install, then clear the space and let them work without having to worry about damage to the car.

Tip #4 - keep the kids and animals clear while they are working

Although it's exciting to see trades at work, please remember to keep yourself, young kids and pets out of the garage while your technician is working. Both kids and pets are naturally inquisitive and we would hate for any harm to come to them.

In the unlikely event something goes wrong mechanically with the door, your technician will need to focus on the issue, not where the children or animals might be. Let your tradie focus on fixing your door and you can inspect a job well done at the end!

"Driveway and garage-related accidents resulted in 3871 and 3068 hospitalisations respectively in Australia between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2021, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

Tip #5 - If they've done a good job, let everyone know!

You know how we said earlier when looking for a good garage door technician, check them out online?

Share the love my friend! If your garage door specialist has done a stellar job for you, give them a shout out!

The best thing you can do to support small business owners is exactly this. And if they are on the ball, they would have given you a few magnets or business cards to share with friends and family. Maybe even put a sticker on the inside of your door with their details so you know who to call for any future jobs, that's what we do here at Garage and roller door services anyway!
